This past weekend, Daniel & I built our very own, and we love it! It really wasn't that complicated, and it definitely adds something to our yard. Here is the process...<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">We basically just went off the natural slope in our yard and stacked stones (from Lowe's) to make a wall</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cOyk-brjCQg/To5pTJ94tYI/AAAAAAAAASs/AElGrfB8Zj4/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cOyk-brjCQg/To5pTJ94tYI/AAAAAAAAASs/AElGrfB8Zj4/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xj1S9wm-9p8/To5pARs-vxI/AAAAAAAAASY/ye_fI6SPvRk/s1600/image-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xj1S9wm-9p8/To5pARs-vxI/AAAAAAAAASY/ye_fI6SPvRk/s320/image-1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then we just dug a hole in the ground to start our fire pit</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZQvvv-o-7s/To5pIdqk5uI/AAAAAAAAASg/7Tu6kHY6PyU/s1600/image-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iZQvvv-o-7s/To5pIdqk5uI/AAAAAAAAASg/7Tu6kHY6PyU/s320/image-3.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then we just shoveled over some dirt from the slope to level it out (we had to add a little top soil to help with that as well). We also added pea gravel for aesthetics</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZPugLx1qON0/To5pL52YT5I/AAAAAAAAASk/TM6wMH_CBDM/s1600/image-4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZPugLx1qON0/To5pL52YT5I/AAAAAAAAASk/TM6wMH_CBDM/s320/image-4.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We used a smaller stone to line the pit</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--pKYo5srDeY/To5pENTux8I/AAAAAAAAASc/PsZTswqfmw8/s1600/image-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--pKYo5srDeY/To5pENTux8I/AAAAAAAAASc/PsZTswqfmw8/s320/image-2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And voila!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SrC3399lZ0/To5pPaXlMzI/AAAAAAAAASo/der_uVBMu4k/s1600/image-5.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6SrC3399lZ0/To5pPaXlMzI/AAAAAAAAASo/der_uVBMu4k/s320/image-5.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now we just need some seating and it is complete! Party at our house!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Also, this may have happened the night we built it :) We, along with our neighbors, really love Friends, so this was a must to create a great evening...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

We found these amazing brick pavers, which is what we knew we wanted, and we are so happy with the end result.<br />
<br />
Can't believe I forgot a "before" picture....but you can sort of see the linoleum floor in this picture<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aMVl1sRy84w/TlhYWnDcGrI/AAAAAAAAAR4/EkCio6EbeFc/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aMVl1sRy84w/TlhYWnDcGrI/AAAAAAAAAR4/EkCio6EbeFc/s320/photo.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Our friend Alex (left) came over to help us take up the old floor and lay the pavers. We are so grateful for his help!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-td48Ci5E8uo/TlhY22XHpNI/AAAAAAAAAR8/IvSlSSPPAM8/s1600/image-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-td48Ci5E8uo/TlhY22XHpNI/AAAAAAAAAR8/IvSlSSPPAM8/s320/image-3.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">In process....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HyWGusbpRE0/TlhZZze5w-I/AAAAAAAAASA/DMugdMDfM_w/s1600/image-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HyWGusbpRE0/TlhZZze5w-I/AAAAAAAAASA/DMugdMDfM_w/s320/image-1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I follow my fair share of blogs, but this is a pretty easy and fun way to get quick inspiration for ANYTHING!<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>I'm slowly building my boards, but I've really had fun looking at other peoples'. I usually just end up repinning others' pictures that I like.</div><div><br />

You have probably seen me direct your eye away from our nasty linoleum floors that were in our breakfast nook, but they're gone now! Hallelujah. AND this weekend we are installing a brick floor in our kitchen - I'm so excited I can't stand it.<br />
<br />
We just got a medium-dark interlocking laminate floor that should hold up great (and it was nicer on the wallet :) ). We are very pleased with the end result...although it was not too fun getting there at times.<br />
<br />
<br />
Original floors in the entryway (they were all termite eaten and also wouldn't match what we chose):<br />

It is complete! This was my inspiration:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ynBiUPotvj0/TgYmlP4xMFI/AAAAAAAAAPw/wdmIaHO1wEo/s1600/palette+shelf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ynBiUPotvj0/TgYmlP4xMFI/AAAAAAAAAPw/wdmIaHO1wEo/s320/palette+shelf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then I made it my own:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8FH3udWuWfk/TgYmxXOXujI/AAAAAAAAAP4/JjrHLrO5044/s1600/image-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8FH3udWuWfk/TgYmxXOXujI/AAAAAAAAAP4/JjrHLrO5044/s320/image-2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
For us, this project cost about $4 - boom!!<br />
<br />
We got the palette from my husband's work warehouse - FREE<br />
The old tools were given to us by my husband's grandfather - FREE (and awesome)<br />
We had the mason jars around the house - FREE<br />
I just got the plates from a thrift store - $4 for both<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ezP9JP-DhRQ/TgYm0ublLGI/AAAAAAAAAP8/zyDW5kv4UiA/s1600/image-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ezP9JP-DhRQ/TgYm0ublLGI/AAAAAAAAAP8/zyDW5kv4UiA/s320/image-3.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Beige, gray, white...love them.<br />
<br />
I think the reason I love this palette so much is because it's like a blank canvas. If I start with neutrals, I can bring in whatever splashes of color I want. Not to mention, they almost always go together, so that's easy.<br />
<br />
I also just love how airy whites feel. I am a fan of the farmhouse look, and whites play a big part in that.<br />
<br />
Here are a few images I found that I LOVE<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QZo2xRm-vHo/TgDeDaTwOlI/AAAAAAAAAPg/_wXrEb-y1e0/s1600/Living-room-Gothic-HTOURS0605-de-8723078.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QZo2xRm-vHo/TgDeDaTwOlI/AAAAAAAAAPg/_wXrEb-y1e0/s320/Living-room-Gothic-HTOURS0605-de-8723078.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Before, it just had beige walls, nothing special. But NOW we added some color (which is big for me because I'm a major neutrals girl) and some siding, and it looks great. We still want to do something to the floors, but that will come later.<br />
<br />
The color we chose is a dull country blue, which really does give it some brightness, but it's not over the top<br />
<br />
Valspar Powder Blue - Satin Finish<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ocQs365WwU/TcVi5l8ZF2I/AAAAAAAAAPI/4D9kyaIFeSc/s1600/9523-valspar-signature-color-paint.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ocQs365WwU/TcVi5l8ZF2I/AAAAAAAAAPI/4D9kyaIFeSc/s1600/9523-valspar-signature-color-paint.jpg" /></a></div><br />

<br />
In progress:<br />

You know that anything rustic/junky makes me drool, and I have just the place for it<br />
<br />
Daniel brought home the palette we're going to adjust, so it's just a matter of doing it! Final product to come....<br />

Am I glad I married a handy husband, or what??<br />
<br />
A couple weeks ago I saw a DIY project that was inspired by the below Pottery Barn chandelier. Amazing and right up by style alley! I love anything rustic so this made me drool.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQbcocy8GKE/TVRBDOzRHKI/AAAAAAAAAOk/o4MelZnmi8Q/s1600/mason+jar+light.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQbcocy8GKE/TVRBDOzRHKI/AAAAAAAAAOk/o4MelZnmi8Q/s1600/mason+jar+light.png" /></a></div><br />
So Daniel and I made our own! Here are pictures of a few stages:<br />
<br />
Daniel did all the electrical work himself. We just bought 18/2 black cable, he cut it to size, ran it through the mason jar lid, & attached a lamp socket to the end.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PidDW9H7zKM/TVRC-nYtMSI/AAAAAAAAAO0/pdbspgbj1Pg/s1600/image-4.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PidDW9H7zKM/TVRC-nYtMSI/AAAAAAAAAO0/pdbspgbj1Pg/s320/image-4.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZjA7stKR-n0/TVRC_YXC2rI/AAAAAAAAAO4/K72yhMs4UVs/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZjA7stKR-n0/TVRC_YXC2rI/AAAAAAAAAO4/K72yhMs4UVs/s320/image.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
He also built the box it hung from out of an old palette from his work's warehouse. It was perfect. (Sorry didn't get a good picture of that before he hung it)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Before:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EfgIlGA3r1g/TVRC90slnMI/AAAAAAAAAOw/1MrKMv1XtWk/s1600/image-3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EfgIlGA3r1g/TVRC90slnMI/AAAAAAAAAOw/1MrKMv1XtWk/s320/image-3.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">After:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ug_Ty1xxVjY/TVRC8ZCgDbI/AAAAAAAAAOo/tktC-NUg-KA/s1600/image-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ug_Ty1xxVjY/TVRC8ZCgDbI/AAAAAAAAAOo/tktC-NUg-KA/s320/image-1.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TGW6BzSkScE/TVRC9PcIZdI/AAAAAAAAAOs/u-LAsDoiVwA/s1600/image-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TGW6BzSkScE/TVRC9PcIZdI/AAAAAAAAAOs/u-LAsDoiVwA/s320/image-2.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">It looks so much better in person! These were taken with my phone...sorry for the poor quality. We find ourselves just sitting at the dining room table just to enjoy the chandelier (lame, I know)...</div>Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-39587978130944876422011-01-21T15:12:00.001-05:002011-08-03T14:34:58.836-04:00The Word made ArtAs I mentioned in the last post, Passion Conferences just happened at the beginning of this month. Well, last year for Do Something Now, I made a wall collage out of Bible pages in all different languages. It was pretty amazing to have the Bible represented by so many countries all in my hands that would soon end up in the hands of someone who had never heard its contents.<br />
<br />
I still had a stack of pages from last year, so I finally made something out of it! With just a little Modge Podge and a canvas that I already had, I made this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTnmYrY6ZlI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/3kCUER78nCA/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTnmYrY6ZlI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/3kCUER78nCA/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTnmgECpJNI/AAAAAAAAAOU/CiJAmqpRA4k/s1600/image-2.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTnmgECpJNI/AAAAAAAAAOU/CiJAmqpRA4k/s320/image-2.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
We put it over our bed, and it works perfectly! Such a low-cost, yet meaningful, piece of art!<br />

<br />
Last week, Daniel made an amazing, but simple, desk for the office that we both love. It's big, but perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTiJkgfbRKI/AAAAAAAAAOA/RRo55bDhu4k/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TTiJkgfbRKI/AAAAAAAAAOA/RRo55bDhu4k/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
The table top is a door that was made for <a href="http://www.dosomethingnow.com/">Do Something Now</a>, which is the heartbeat of <a href="http://www.268generation.com/">Passion Conferences</a> that just happened at the beginning of this month. If you've never heard of Do Something Now, you need to visit the new site (launching Feb 15th). It will change your heart. Daniel built a few huts for DSN, and this door was leftover after we tore everything down post-conference.<br />
<br />
Then he just made some sawhorse legs, painted it white and that was that!<br />
<br />
To top it off, I got some clear jars and filled them with office supplies for effect :) And practicality, I guess...The other two things, I got at Hobby Lobby for 70% off! I LOVE that place!<br />

It's not one that I'm too fond of, but it's nice to have one. The question is, what tactic should I use to cover up the hideousness of its border?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TSy7pyDPg1I/AAAAAAAAAN8/Iq-40y6ezcY/s1600/image-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TSy7pyDPg1I/AAAAAAAAAN8/Iq-40y6ezcY/s320/image-1.jpeg" width="240" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TSy7iiGql8I/AAAAAAAAAN4/ghIIY5ztmhA/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TSy7iiGql8I/AAAAAAAAAN4/ghIIY5ztmhA/s320/image.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
We've talked about spray paint, but that makes me a little nervous...I don't want it to look cheap.<br />
<br />
Any suggestions??Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-46260201674586284552011-01-05T17:13:00.001-05:002011-01-25T12:40:59.378-05:00S'mores in a CupOver the Christmas holidays, my cousins came and spent the night at our new home, and we had a blast! I had found this delectable hot chocolate recipe on <a href="http://www.ourbestbites.com/2010/12/smores-hot-chocolate.html">Our Best Bites</a> and I knew I had to make it. Here is the recipe:<br />

<br />
We just moved into our new home in Suwanee 2 weeks ago, and we have been hard at work! There isn't a whole lot to change about this house, it's in great shape. Our biggest urge, though, was to do something about the outdated kitchen. So we did!<br />
<br />
Here is a before shot of one side:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpp2K2NmXI/AAAAAAAAANA/UJUKVpirXtY/s1600/IMG_0235.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpp2K2NmXI/AAAAAAAAANA/UJUKVpirXtY/s1600/IMG_0235.JPG" /></a></div><br />
And with the cabinets painted:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpqAuiwXmI/AAAAAAAAANE/iXwzUzolQus/s1600/IMG_0255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpqAuiwXmI/AAAAAAAAANE/iXwzUzolQus/s320/IMG_0255.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Also, my husband/my project hero installed new <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10146525">counter tops</a> from IKEA (VERY cost efficient!)<br />
AND I got a farmstyle sink from IKEA for HALF OFF in the As-Is room! Swoon.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpqMWNVnrI/AAAAAAAAANI/LugLZ4b5gmA/s1600/IMG_0258.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPpqMWNVnrI/AAAAAAAAANI/LugLZ4b5gmA/s320/IMG_0258.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Here is the final project! I LOVE it!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPprraE1TCI/AAAAAAAAANM/vxS-K0Ueqfc/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPprraE1TCI/AAAAAAAAANM/vxS-K0Ueqfc/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPprvlqNVtI/AAAAAAAAANQ/V_tX32NTifg/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TPprvlqNVtI/AAAAAAAAANQ/V_tX32NTifg/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I'll post some more from the rest of our house this week...Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-70199297536809053932010-11-06T10:41:00.001-04:002011-01-25T12:45:14.889-05:00Life is CrazyWow, what a crazy month this has been! We're still in a whirlwind, so I haven't been around in a while...<br />
<br />
Our biggest project this month has been buying a house in Suwanee, GA! We're excited to move and everything has been going smoothly until this past week. We've had a minor setback with our loan, but we only had to move the closing date back by a week. Whew. I can't wait to live across the street from one of my closest friends <a href="http://designa-peele.blogspot.com/">Beth</a>!<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the toughest part of the month was losing my cousin, Tammy. She has had a tough journey suffering from a brain aneurism and then ultimately dying of cancer that they found a month ago. Her funeral this week was really hard, but we know she is where we all want to be :)<br />
<br />
Also, I had surgery yesterday! I got my gall bladder removed, and I should feel much better after the soreness is gone. I'm up walking around, but it still hurts.<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving week because all will have settled down by then and we get to just visit with family. Sigh :) Talk about a tornado of a month!Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-83563407669086104842010-10-01T12:47:00.000-04:002011-01-25T12:39:20.281-05:00Free Project!If you know me, you know that I'm frugal. So that's why a free project makes me feel really good! If you've followed by blog for a while, you may remember this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYOpZ9Z1qI/AAAAAAAAAMw/SMLQeL-YQys/s1600/apples+and+flowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYOpZ9Z1qI/AAAAAAAAAMw/SMLQeL-YQys/s320/apples+and+flowers.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I figured the tulips are pretty summery, so I decided to change them out for another look. The new accent is still just as bright, but it adds a little taste of fall. I already had some spray paint, so all I needed were some branches from outside!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYQKMRRrQI/AAAAAAAAAM8/2ZGKq5V1frU/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYQKMRRrQI/AAAAAAAAAM8/2ZGKq5V1frU/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYPfkyMqBI/AAAAAAAAAM0/yO0LFi_UQpQ/s1600/image.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKYPfkyMqBI/AAAAAAAAAM0/yO0LFi_UQpQ/s320/image.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div> I'll probably change the apples out at some point for some pine cones or maybe something a little more "fall like". Then at Christmas I can do cranberries! So easy!Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-36028814330187120142010-09-27T19:43:00.001-04:002011-01-25T12:40:34.076-05:00My Latest Inspirations...I. Love. IKEA.<br />
<br />
I'm sure many of you do. We went to browse a few weeks ago, and it really got my senses stirring. I love tearing out pages in magazines for home inspiration, so I went through the IKEA catalog and tore out plenty. I'm mainly fascinated with their kitchen designs. Here is a taste of what has lately been running through my head:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I like the brightness of this kitchen. One day, I would love one of those hanging utensil racks (Only $25 at IKEA!) If this kitchen were mine, I would redo the counters with the amazing chopping block wooden counter tops from IKEA. I adore that type of surface. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEp6TanTxI/AAAAAAAAAMM/AIGW-VSrZPQ/s1600/ikea+kitchen+white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEp6TanTxI/AAAAAAAAAMM/AIGW-VSrZPQ/s320/ikea+kitchen+white.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEr4qMKDHI/AAAAAAAAAMc/leUc-n9BCMw/s1600/counter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEr4qMKDHI/AAAAAAAAAMc/leUc-n9BCMw/s320/counter.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I also LOVE the look of these shelves instead of cabinets! It really opens up the space. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqBNF-3yI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/7MK_xbEh1IA/s1600/ikea+kitchen+zoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="215" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqBNF-3yI/AAAAAAAAAMQ/7MK_xbEh1IA/s320/ikea+kitchen+zoom.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I really just like the back wall again with the shelves. I've always wanted a sink by a window so I can put plant life on the windowsill. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqbEeneDI/AAAAAAAAAMY/2RJxPhyuDlw/s1600/ikea+kitchen.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqbEeneDI/AAAAAAAAAMY/2RJxPhyuDlw/s320/ikea+kitchen.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">And I just like this look from Pottery Barn </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqYVxFkZI/AAAAAAAAAMU/iqyIo3w5i0w/s1600/galvanized+tins.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TKEqYVxFkZI/AAAAAAAAAMU/iqyIo3w5i0w/s320/galvanized+tins.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Inspiration abounds!!Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-20224756247611987542010-09-26T15:11:00.000-04:002011-01-25T12:40:34.077-05:00Dog Toys Don't MatchSo as you may know from a previous post, Daniel and I have a lab/boxer puppy named Duncan. He's 8 months old now, and is still just as precious! We, unfortunately, are going through a phase of getting him new toys where he destroys them in 10 minutes flat. Hard to be mad, when it's just impressive...<br />
<br />
I hated how his toys were sprawled all over the house and in the couch cushions, so I came up with a happy medium. I've always loved galvanized metal, so I got him his own bucket from Lowe's! Not only can he grab a toy out of it himself, but it actually looks decent.<br />
<br />
So for all you dog lovers out there, it can be an organized, simple and cheap fix!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TJ-ZREk2UjI/AAAAAAAAAME/a3m6KgPwYLk/s1600/photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="312" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TJ-ZREk2UjI/AAAAAAAAAME/a3m6KgPwYLk/s320/photo.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

Well, not this weekend!<br />
<br />
In one of our super cool downtown Athens stores, they sell sheets of wrapping paper for about $2.95. Seems a little ridiculous, but this paper is amazing. I wanted some of the wall space in our dining area to be filled a little more, so I decided to make some art! My friend Staci and I had talked about how neat it would look to frame a pattern that we like, so I did just that.<br />
<br />
I got 3 different patterns and Daniel and I got some really great rustic frames at Hobby Lobby at 50% off! I don't know about yours, but our Hobby Lobby has A LOT on sale for half price this week!<br />
<br />
Daniel then cut some foam board to back the paper, so it was more solid and wouldn't rip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7yerqbxPI/AAAAAAAAAK8/rVsMCrgXLak/s1600/cutting.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7yerqbxPI/AAAAAAAAAK8/rVsMCrgXLak/s320/cutting.jpeg" /></a></div>Then we just used double sided tape and placed them in the frames! We LOVE them!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7yte7blWI/AAAAAAAAALE/GNi9qUjaark/s1600/Art+Work+Close" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7yte7blWI/AAAAAAAAALE/GNi9qUjaark/s320/Art+Work+Close" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7y054_6RI/AAAAAAAAALM/Y0qaB2hz8BI/s1600/Art+Work.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7y054_6RI/AAAAAAAAALM/Y0qaB2hz8BI/s320/Art+Work.jpeg" /></a></div>Here's another thing we found for half price...I've always wanted these in my kitchen!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7y-PXozCI/AAAAAAAAALU/M8y9RMXVd9M/s1600/Fork%26Spoon" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TF7y-PXozCI/AAAAAAAAALU/M8y9RMXVd9M/s320/Fork%26Spoon" /></a></div>Since I've been doing so much, I've been cut off from home projects for a while :) Enjoy!Anna Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04000194659121819504noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3532432522281835931.post-42683488866982274182010-07-12T16:47:00.000-04:002011-01-25T12:39:20.281-05:00Making Old into NewLately, I've been in major home project mode, so today I acted on it!<br />
<br />
Last week, my friend Beth put some project inspiration on her blog <a href="http://designa-peele.blogspot.com/2010/06/things-im-itching-to-do-around-our.html">here</a>, and I saw something that I loved! It was a moss-covered letter. I love the look of moss, and I already had our initial in a white wood, so I decided to run to Michaels and get some moss to glue on it!<br />
<br />
I got a bag of this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt1lxJIIlI/AAAAAAAAAKc/DyeN5_u4u-Y/s1600/IMG_0159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt1lxJIIlI/AAAAAAAAAKc/DyeN5_u4u-Y/s320/IMG_0159.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And just hot glue gunned it to the "A", and here's how it turned out! It was a little messy, but it all came together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt1yQLnccI/AAAAAAAAAKk/bYHctjMP4xQ/s1600/IMG_0160.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt1yQLnccI/AAAAAAAAAKk/bYHctjMP4xQ/s320/IMG_0160.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">My next project for the day was to make some use out of the multiple glass vases that have collected in my house over the years. They were just sitting on top of my kitchen cabinets, so I wanted to recycle them! I went out and bought some glossy white spray paint, made them white, and added some fake green hydrangeas. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt2_Skp_eI/AAAAAAAAAKs/skaodGfSPdE/s1600/IMG_0161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HWtbyWwInTk/TDt2_Skp_eI/AAAAAAAAAKs/skaodGfSPdE/s320/IMG_0161.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm trying to reduce some clutter in our house, so I think these really helped! And they brighten up the room! Ahh home projects...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
